If a 20-lb grill tank dies after a Bricktown patio night, a Thunder tailgate, an OU weekend in Norman, or a stop across from Tinker, Maps will usually send you to a locked cage on Sooner Road, I-40, or a grocery lot in Edmond. That cage is almost always an exchange: you drop your cylinder and leave with a different, prefilled one — often lighter than a legal fill, and with no credit for gas still in the tank you turned in. A refill is the other product: a certified attendant (or a U-Haul pay-at-pump) puts propane into the tank you already own and bills gallons added.
This directory is for people in Oklahoma City, Midwest City, Edmond, Norman, Moore, Bethany, Piedmont, Choctaw, El Reno, and Guthrie who want that refill — U-Haul stations whose location pages say tank refill, Tractor Supply stores whose official pages (or the Oklahoma store-list propane-refill links) list propane tank refill, and Red Baker’s Moore bottle station (published grill / RV / forklift refills). It is not a map of every cage in Oklahoma County, not a Tulsa dump, and not a price board. Call before you drive. Office hours on a U-Haul door are not a guarantee that the pump is staffed that minute. Edmond and Yukon U-Haul pages on this pass are exchange-only. Red Baker’s published hours are weekday Summer Hours on the refill page — still call.
How refill differs from exchange
Oklahoma City–area U-Haul refill pages state that refilling is cheaper than exchange and that exchange does not credit leftover propane in the tank you turn in. Gallon prices on those pages change by location and by day; they are omitted from the cards below.
Oklahoma LP-Gas dispenser rules also require cylinders from 4.2 lb through 40 lb propane capacity (vapor service) to have a listed OPD, and Class VI stations fill DOT cylinders by weight unless an NFPA-58 exemption applies. Ask which method the station uses. Several U-Haul stations in this table (39th Expressway, South Sooner, Northwest Expressway, Quail Springs) list both refill and 20-lb exchange — they are refill stops; the cage is a side product, not why they are here. Edmond Broadway and Yukon SW 15th list exchange only and are not in the table.

- Call ahead. Ask: “Do you refill my tank today, what sizes, and is someone available now?” Store hours ≠ propane attendant hours. Red Baker’s published block is weekday Summer Hours.
- Bring the empty (or low) tank you own. Refill keeps your cylinder; exchange swaps it.
- Read the collar date. DOT cylinders must be requalified within 12 years of manufacture (then again per method).
- Look for OPD. Oklahoma LP-Gas dispenser guidance: cylinders 4.2 lb through 40 lb propane capacity (vapor service) generally need a listed Overfill Prevention Device.
- Condition matters. Excessive rust/pitting, dents/bulges/cuts, damaged collar/footring, or a bad valve.
- Expect a partial “full.” Legal fill leaves vapor space (~80%). Oklahoma Class VI stations fill DOT cylinders by weight unless an exemption applies.
- Sizes. Ask about 20 / 30 / 40 / 100 lb and whether they fill RV ASME tanks.

- Do not fill cylinders with excessive rust/corrosion/pitting, dents/bulges/cuts/cracks, missing/damaged footring, neckring/collar, or valve cover, or leaking/defective valve or relief device.
- Check manufacture / requalification dates; cylinders must be requalified within 12 years of manufacture (then per marking — e.g. “E” visual often means 5 years).

- Cylinders with 4.2 lb through 40 lb propane capacity for vapor service must be equipped with a listed OPD and a fixed maximum liquid level gauge (with listed exemptions, e.g. some forklift / welding cylinders).
- Any cylinder that fails visual-inspection criteria must not be refilled until the condition is corrected.
